Final Report - 5N-BRQ - Engine Fire on Approach

On 15 June 2022, an ATR 42-320 aircraft operated by Overland Airways Limited was scheduled for an IFR flight from Ilorin International Airport (DNIL) to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos (DNMM). After establishing contact with Lagos Approach and Tower, the flight was cleared to land runway 18R in calm wind. The cabin crew reported observing flames from engine 1. The crew declared "MAYDAY... ENGINE FIRE ON NUMBER 1" while on short final. The aircraft landed, the flight crew were advised by the ATC to hold near the cargo apron and Fire Fighting commenced shortly after. The Captain called for passenger evacuation, which was conducted via the main passenger entry door. ARFFS confirmed the fire was extinguished. All passengers and crew disembarked safely without injuries. The incident occurred at night under Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC).
