I have read an operator suggesting the briefing could be done by pilot Monitoring. Do you think it makes sense?
Yes it does make sense. It is a significant change from the original philosophy and current ATR practices. It has been discussed in ATR in the past, but we have not integrated it in our SOPs. We would be very happy to pursue this project with operators to maximize the effectiveness of briefings.
During briefing, can the crew skip the full verification of all points of an approach on charts and FMS?
The focus of the presentation is not to skip points but to adapt the briefing to the threats. For well known routes repetition could be ineffective, we recommend that the airline develops a full analysis of the relevance of specific tasks in specific repetitive configurations (risk matrix) and reflect any specificities of the briefing in your SOPs rather than leaving this decision to the crew.
How can a FC/operator maintain a complete and standard briefing if you go 3 times in a few hours and nothing has changed (app, weather, aircraft status…)?
Focus on what is new, what id different, what is important. Does it has a direct impact on the coming action plan (for instance if there is a MEL item it should be briefed, as it is a non standard threat)?
Can you share your presentation?
The presentations and correspondent films are available on ATR Flight Safety website.
