Q&A:

  • What are the key elements put in place for safety assurance in ATR?

Ever since the beginning of the implementation of SMS we have set in motion a group of people called SMS representatives that work together all along the process of an SMS topic. We also have a process in place to follow up on the topics and actions put in place. All of them are regularly communicated through dedicated meetings and internal communication.

  • How is SMS in ATR support it’s operators?

We in ATR communicate with several operators to share our experience and discuss topics that are relevant for both us and the operator. And example would be the video for emergency evacuation mentioned in the presentation.

  • What are some of the tools that operators could use to identify the risks?

The main one is the data from the FDM. By looking at your own data you can identify various areas of risk that could be appearing in your operations. The ICAO safety management manual and ICAO Annex 19 remain the reference documents to establish your risk matrix.

  • Does ATR maintain a register of hazards on the aircraft that has been passed on to the operators to manage? Can hazard id and risk assessment (if relevant) be included in service bulletins that address a potential hazard.

ATR understands the question refers to the evolving SMS regulations and best practices from EASA. The register of hazards is associated with an airline’s operation. Under existing regulations as an aircraft manufacturer, we publish operator information needed for the safe operation of our product.

  • Do the Safety ATR objectives involve the operators in any way?

The safety of ATR aircraft and it’s operators are at the heart of our daily business. This can be seen through the Regional Safety plan that ATR has in place, and also through all the communication provided by our colleagues (in customer support, engineering, etc.) and the recommendations and best practices published on our flight safety website.
